With the new gondola cableway "GütschExpress", skiers can now get directly from Andermatt train station to the Nätschen Gütsch Schneehüenerstock ski area. Following the official inauguration, the "GütschExpress", the new "Lutersee Flyer" chairlift, and the "Gütsch Flyer" chairlift, built in 2016, will take up daily operation on December 23. The “Schneehüenerstock Flyer” will commence operation at the end of January 2018.
The new Gütsch Express gondola cableway was inaugurated on Friday morning in the presence of Cantonal Councillor Heidi Zgraggen, Franz Xaver Simmen, Managing Director of Andermatt Sedrun Sport AG, board member Bernhard Russi, CEO Silvio Schmid, and project manager Peter Furger. This completes the central feeder for the ski link from Andermatt to Sedrun. Deacon Edy Imhof christened the lift before the guests set off on the maiden voyage in the cabins, elegantly finished in anthracite. Also commencingoperation were the new Lutersee-Flyer chairlift and the longest continuous technical snow-making system to be installed in recent years.
Gütsch Express with direct connection to Andermatt train station
The Gütsch Express gondola cableway runs from Andermatt train station to the Gütsch mountain station via the new middle station at Nätschen featuring "Matti’s family restaurant" and the children's area "Matti’s Kids Arena". Running towards the Schneehüenerstock, the Gütsch Flyer (built in 2016) and the new Lutersee-Flyer will also open on 23 December 2017. The Schneehüenerstock-Flyer on the Schneehüenerstock is scheduled to open at the end of January 2018. With this, the direct Ski Arena link from Andermatt to Sedrun (in one direction) will be come operational.
The Gütsch-Express, with 18 masts, can transport 2,400 per hour to the ski area. The valley station is directly connected to Andermatt train station via a new underpass. This station employs the "terminal-gate" principle: ticketing, information, shopping, ski lockers, etc. remain in the train station, and the lift station itself consists merely of the technical infrastructure with direct access from the pedestrian underpass.
Franz-Xaver Simmen, Managing Director of Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG, spoke of a historic milestone for SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun. With the new Gütsch Express gondola cableway, the SkiArena now has modern and fast access to the ski area as well as increased capacity, allowing more skiers to use the ski resort.
